Established in June 1975, with 2 workers, a tea boy and a sewing machine taken on hire by Jaidev Kumar, which was corporatized into a Pvt Ltd company in 2019.
The first product manufactured by us was 10 pcs passport wallets. Thereafter we started selling leather gift items to a wholesaler dealing in Diwali and New Year gifts, including leather covered diaries, wallets, key cases, key fobs etc.
When the only items in leather goods being exported were Shantiniketan hand touched coloured bags, Sagittarians were one of the pioneers of finished leather bags export, made fully of leather and with combination with SitalPati (Cane Mat), jute and Canvas.
Sagittarians had given an advertisement in the Yellow Pages of Calcutta Telephone Directory, which brought us in contact with a British importer of handbags and our first item for export was a SitalPati clutch bag with leather trim as below.
This was the beginning of our journey in export of leather goods.
Now after 49 years and having seen lots of ups and downs, we have a highly equipped factory with all the latest machinery making over 60,000 pcs of leather items per month.
We can also claim to be one of the few leather goods factories which make totally hand stitched leather items, like knife sheaths, handbags, travel bags, backpacks etc.
We also make wallets and handbags with leather woven uppers.
Of late due to the hue and cry of Global Warming and Pollution, we have developed 100% vegetable tanned leather with 0% Chromium content and have also added other vegan materials to our range handled by our sister concern based in Mumbai www.studiobeej.com
